Why do these things happen, why!
It's just not fair!
This post just touched my heart! Please take a minute to read it.
On a personal note, my father passed away from cancer almost 6 years ago. Its not easy. The cancer, the fight. Its not easy loosing someone you love. Watching them leave this life. Its not easy understanding why they have to go. Its not easy knowing they wont be there for the big things in your life. Its not easy being strong. I know I wouldn't have gotten through it if I didn't have friends and family and people out there thinking of me, of my family, of all of us.
So, in support of Snickollet, here is my candle.
Please take a moment to light one for her too!
We have just arrived home from the 2007 Blog Awards, held at Cool Runnings in Fourways.
A very successful and entertaining evening with the 'South African Weblog of the Year' going to Tertia Albertyn's blog, So Close. Congratulations Tertia! The venue was a tad loud for my taste but the atmosphere was great. The food was excellent and the guys had a great time playing foosball and just playing around in general.
On a more personal note, I found myself seated with three non-geek/blogger wives. At this point I must mention that although I do blog, I still consider myself a non-geek. So it was great to find myself in the company of these women.
We all came to realise over the course of the evening that we are not alone.
I now know that its not just my husband who is permanently attached to his computer, who watches TV and blogs with his laptop plugged into the nearest power supply at the same time, that I'm not the only one who refuses to share my bed with my husband and his laptop.
Its great to be able to talk to other women like me, women who understand what its like to be a blog widow. Don't get me wrong though, we love our husbands and wouldn't change them for the world!
So, this post is dedicated to all the women (and I'm sure there are men out there too) who lose their spouses to the computer more often than not. There are others out there, you are not alone.
So, i think i will try this blogging thing again.
This new bout of enthusiasm has been brought on by reading some very inspirational blogs recently, one of them being Tertia Albertyn's blog So Close. A truly inspiring woman, my heart goes out to her and her family, I only hope that faced with a similar situation I will be able to have even the smallest amount of her strength and courage, her poise and grace and most importantly her ability to live life no matter what gets thrown at her.
Another deciding factor in resuming my blog is the current hoopla in regards to the 2007 SA Blog Awards, I would like to express my own opinion in this regard and what better way to do that by posting on my blog, so here goes:
I think the Blog Awards are great, a wonderful showcase of South African Blogs, the awards' main aim is to promote ALL South African blogs. To those of you being lemons*, complaining bitterly about judging and the unfairness of it all, grow up, get a life, how about promoting SA Blogs by standing up and cheering your fellow bloggers for their achievements, be constructive not destructive, if you don't like how the awards are being handled offer advice, don't rant and whine about it. Perhaps we forget that this is only the 3rd annual event, teething problems do happen, improvement can only come about by trial and error, by people willing to constructively offer advise. Go Blog Awards, Go!!!
Ok, enough of that, I'm now gonna try get my husband away from his computer and get him to take me out for lunch. Hold thumbs!
* Here I would like to point out that i haven't actually read any posts, I have only heard whats been said by word of mouth and from an article that I read in the Sunday Times on 18 March 2007.
